Employment incident to status; a letter or memo from the DSO may be necessary for instancces when off-campus employment can be considered on -campus employment. Student must be maintaining F-1 status. |

Documentation must be mailed to INS; EAD required. Processing time approximately 8 weeks. |
Need must be unforeseen. Must be in the US for 9 months before applying. Hard to convince INS that need is unforeseen. Allowed to work 20 hours a week when school is in session, full-time during summer. |

CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION |
Approval of employment by Co-op Office. Undergrad.: 252 Henderson Hall Grad.: 208 Sandy Hall Authorization from DSO |
No minimum period; full-time. If over 12 months, student forfeits Optional Practical Training. Must be in US for 9 months. Some exceptions, must enroll 3 hrs. |

OPTIONAL PRACTICAL TRAINING |
Documentation must be mailed to INS; EAD required. Processing time approx. 8 weeks. Can apply 120 days before completion or within a month after completion of degree. |
Must be related to field of study. Must be in the US for 9 months. Can be full or part-time. Time used before completion of degree will be subtracted from the 12-month period. |
